Muslim Outreach Organization Information Kiosk, "Bridge Building in Light of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Recent Comments, "the major threat is still Islamicism.""
DATE and PLACE:Sunday September 18, 20111PM - 4PM
Outside Public Gardens, Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada
HALIFAX - On Sunday, September 18th, 2011 Halifax, NS, Muslim Outreach Organization - Islam20questions.org will be setting up an information display outside of the Halifax Public Gardens on South Park Street.
Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, recently stated in an interview on national television that ""the major threat is still Islamicism." Halifax Muslims representing a shared religious belief with 1.8 billion members of the faith of Islam as well as a shared membership in the human family itself are deeply saddened at such a comment. For the average Canadian citizen, Hinduism means the Hindu faith, Buddhism means the Buddhist faith, Judaism means the Jewish faith, Catholicism means the Catholic faith, Protestantism means the Protestant faith, Atheism means the Atheist belief. When Prime Minister Harper referred to Islamicism as the major threat facing Canada he has done a great disservice to a large segment of the Canadian and Halifax Muslim community and the citizens of Canada as a whole by brinigning them with him linguistically down the slippery slope that once led to incidents like the internment camps for the Japanese, as well as the Jewish Holocaust. It is a sad day when Canadian Muslims actually feel like this. Islam20questions.org wishes to engage in outreach to the Halifax community, including members of the local media to inform the general public about what Islam teaches and to address any misconceptions about the faith of over 1.6 billion people on the planet. We are deeply saddened by the Prime Ministers comments and are concerned that this type of language will lead to prejudicial treatment. Since communication and learning leads to awareness and understanding we are embarking on a city wide information campaign. Representatives from Islam20questions.org will be on site to answer any questions and for interviews with Halifax Media.
Media Representatives interested in obtaining an interview with a representative of Islam20questions.org are invited to contact:
